In June this year there has been held a big event at Hellevoetsluis in the Netherlands. Hellevoetsluis is one of the so called 'vestingsteden' (fortress town?), member of the organisation of making more attention of the fortress towns, the Nederlandse Vestingsteden. (www.vestingsteden.nl
, readable in English soon)
Once a year one of the joining towns have to held the 'fortress town days'. This year it was the turn of Hellevoetsluis. They put a lot of enthusiasm in this project. Nor money nor material were saved for this wonderful event.
The Bergsche Battery joined this event, as Geertruidenberg is a member of the Nederlandse Vestingsteden. If you like some more information of details about it, please ask Sue and Steve Southcoat, cos they joined this event as they became members of the Bergsche Battery.
In 2007 the event will be held at Ravenstein and Megen on June 16 and 17. If you’re interested in visiting Holland when an C17th event is on, this one will be worth to come over.
